AI in Real Estate: What Buyers and Sellers Should Know

Apr 22, 2025

Back to blogs

AI tools like ChatGPT and virtual staging software are showing up everywhere—even in real estate. As these tools become more common, it’s important for buyers and sellers to understand how they’re being used and what to watch out for.

1. AI Isn’t Always Right

AI tools can help real estate professionals write listing descriptions, summarize contracts, or create content quickly. But these tools aren’t perfect—they can make mistakes, miss important details, or even provide outdated info. That’s why you should never rely solely on AI-generated information when making a decision about buying or selling real estate. Always double-check details and ask your agent questions if something seems off.

2. What You See Might Be Edited

AI can make photos look amazing. It can virtually stage empty rooms, remove clutter, or even make a property look newer than it is. That’s not necessarily a bad thing—as long as it’s labeled clearly. Be cautious when viewing photos or videos online. Ask your agent if anything has been digitally enhanced so you know what to expect when you visit in person.

3. Your Personal Info Matters

Some agents use AI tools to analyze market trends or client behaviour. But AI platforms may store or track the information they’re given. If you're working with an agent, ask how your information is being used—especially if you're sharing sensitive details like your income, address, or financial plans. Your data should always be handled with care and confidentiality.

4. AI Can Be Biased

AI systems are trained using massive amounts of data from the internet—and sometimes that data reflects real-world bias. For example, tools used to screen tenants or analyze neighbourhoods could unintentionally favour certain groups over others. That’s why it’s important that AI is just one tool—not the decision-maker. Every buyer, seller, and tenant deserves fair treatment.

5. Real People Still Matter Most

At the end of the day, AI can help streamline real estate, but it doesn’t replace a good agent. A professional knows how to guide you through the process, explain things clearly, and look out for your best interests. If something feels automated or impersonal, speak up. Your home is too important to leave in the hands of a robot.

Bottom line: AI is a powerful tool, but it’s not a replacement for experience, judgment, or human connection. Whether you’re buying, selling, or investing, make sure your decisions are based on facts—not just fancy tech.
